Certification is a means of demonstrating to the public that your forestry practices adhere to objective standards for sustainable forestry. Certified timber is expected to command higher prices or broader market penetration as the market for certified timber continues to expand. Certification also provides forest managers with independent, expert review of their forest management programs.

Working with partner organizations, Interforest professionals provide services to help organizations prepare for certification and conduct third party certification audits. Interforest works with both the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Standard and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Principles and Criteria. Interforest has also led pioneering joint certification audits that allow lands to receive both SFI and FSC certification using a single audit team and a coordinated audit program.

Partnership with R.S. Berg and Associates for Preparation Consulting Services

Interforest works in partnership with R.S. Berg and Associates to help organizations prepare for certification. Together we provide SFI, ISO and Group Tree Farm preparation consulting for forest products companies and forest land management organizations. The service includes a pre-packaged set of documents needed to construct an SFI Program. This package contains indicators and evidence that helps forest products companies efficiently and cost effectively achieve conformance to the SFI and ISO 14001 standards.

Sustainable Forestry Board (SFB) was chartered as an independent body in July of 2000 to oversee development and continuous improvement of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)® Program Standard, associated certification processes and procedures and program quality control mechanisms. www.aboutsfb.org
